Santa Day!

It’s SANTA DAY at Rails End Gallery

Every year Haliburton Village BIA partners with Rails End to bring Santa to Haliburton Village the day after the evening parade. This year that day is Saturday November 24 from noon til 2pm. There will be a children’s craft table, tasty treats, story telling and, of course, Santa!  Everyone is welcome to enjoy the festive atmosphere of our community’s public art gallery. Admission is free. Rails End Gallery and Arts Centre is fully accessible so bring the stroller and enjoy an artful afternoon with your family and friends. (have you seen the new playground in Head Lake Park yet? We love the new swings!)

Be sure to wear your finest and have a professional “Santa Photo” taken by The Photo Shop for just $5 – Why not bring the whole family, or some friends and make it a group shot?

Looking for a special gift? The Gallery Shop is artfully decorated or the season and brimming with original art and craft by local artists and artisans. Be sure to visit our Christmas corner for delightful decorations, joyful jewelry and great greeting cards!

Rails End Gallery and Arts Centre is a registered Canadian charity and the Gallery Shop helps support year round community programming. This event is presented by Haliburton Village BIA and Rails End Gallery Volunteers with support from Haliburton District Lions Club.

PS Rails End Volunteers will be marching in the Santa Claus Parade on Friday evening November 23! The fun begins at 6:30 pm at the United Church and then along Highland Street.  Watch for us all decked out in GOLD as we kick off our 50th Anniversary year in style. “Cake and I Scream”, by Kira

The following blog post is reposted from Kira von Zuben’s blog – Bedrock and Brambles
Thanks, Kira!

Today I took the Auren, Fern and Meer to see “Cake and I scream”, with Heath Tarlin Entertainment. This is one of four shows through the Razzamataz kids shows. Razzamataz shows are organized by volunteer, non-profit groups and have been produced for more than twenty five years.

Cake and I Scream is a comedy about Hank and Shirley who want to open a restaurant beside an amusement park. They are worried about having to compete with all the excitement next door.

The Kids had a Blast! Auren thought it was so ‘awesome’. He had lots of belly laughs and wanted to participate when they asked for audience volunteers. Sweet Fern enjoyed it but covered her ears most of the time because of the suspense and action on stage. Meer who is now 11 months made it through the show.

We really enjoyed the show and are looking forward to the next one! Thank you to all the volunteers who make these amazing shows possible!

“Cake and I Scream” –

Sunday October 14, 2012 at 2:00 pm at The Northern Light Theatre

This is a story of two people, Hank and Shirley, trying their hands at opening a brand new restaurant.  There is only one problem, it’s right next to an amusement park!  Hank and Shirley are a little worried about competing with all the fun next door, until they hit on a plan to make their restaurant every bit as entertaining as the rides and games at the amusement park.  Yes, they’re spicing it up and we’re not talking about the food!  The main dish is on fire, the plates are spinning and the spaghetti is flying!  The big question is – will Hank and Shirley’s crazy inventions and wild antics make their restaurant a success?  Of course!  This is a comedy!

Babar Presented by Little Red Theatre

Today was the 4th and therefore, last show of the 2011/2012 Razzamataz Kids Show! season.  We were treated to a presentation of Babar presented by Little Red Theatre at YMCA Camp Wanakita.

This show involved 3 performers who sang (sometimes in 3 part harmony) and used puppets and shadow imagery to tell the story of Babar, the elephant king’s story from his time as a young elephant to when he was crowned king.  During the show the audience was able to participate by singing with the preformers and some of the children were also able to test out their acting skills in various roles throughout the production.

Our photo gallery will soon have photos from this great show for your viewing pleasure.

Thank you to both YMCA Camp Wanakita and to Little Red Theatre for allowing us the opportunity to watch this show in a great atmoshere.  A spectial thank you to Camp Wanakita for the yummy cookies after the show!

Sheesham and Lotus

In February we had our 3rd show of the season… Sheesham and Lotus took us for a trip back in time to visit Old Time Ways.

This delightful show 2 person act introduced the audience to the methods or music which originated in Africa and have been modified to the instruments used today.  The audience was also granted an opportunity to try “Ham boning” themselves after a brief demonstration of the basic movements by the preformers.  To find out more about this great show check them out at:

We enjoyed a truly excellent show and look forward to the upcoming show on April 15th.
